Thus, potassium is a mineral that should be taken with caution and it is best to be consumed through foods and not pill supplements. It is reasonably sage for normal people with good kidney function to consume potassium this way. However, even food consummation of potassium should be taken with care because of the wide range of concentrations. It is best to take our own responsibility for your own intake and consult your physician before starting any new program.

Arthritis could be due to a deficiency in potassium or it might be affected by it. In addition, there might be some malfunction, poison, or infection in the kidneys that is caused by age and degrades our ability to concentrate potassium. This could make it impossible for us to get the desired or needed amount of potassium from our foods from which most procedures to process ultimately removes potassium today. Interestingly, Arthritis patients are characterized to have poor nourishment which includes magnesium which is needed to absorb potassium. It’s suspected that a poison might damage the kidneys in a way that it prevents potassium to be retained.

One way that seems to have great success is commonly used at spas, The Dead Sea water has been known to heal arthritis and shown to be relive pain for nearly three months. This technique has 2 ½ to 10 times as much potassium chloride than sodium chloride and a greater ratio of magnesium chloride by weight. It might also have these results because the ocean contains potassium in about the same concentration as normal blood fluid.

About 50 years ago DeCoti-March wrote a book to first link potassium to arthritis. In this book he claimed many cases in histories that potassium showed to be beneficial to relieve pain in arthritis patients. He then formed a foundation in England that encouraged people to use potassium supplements in order to bring cell potassium up to normal and has helped about 3500 people. Currently potassium is also connected to other drugs that have given a good response in similar diseases.

Another successful technique was conducted with a raw vegetable diet described by Holbrook in Europe during the 40s. This diet was actually very successful however many people did not find it pleasurable. Eppinger suggested that the success of this diet might have been because of the high potassium that it contained. This diet might have been even more popular if Holbrook would have added cooked vegetables, soups, or to drink the boiled water of the vegetables. These alternatives would have also allowed the same potassium intake as raw vegetables. Kjeldsen-Kragh wanted to explore why the raw diet worked and he explored the effect of a vegetarian diet. He found that after fasting, in some patients with rheumatoid arthritis, followed by a vegetarian diet had a favorable influence on the disease activity. This phenomenon has not been explained entirely, but fasting should not be prolonged because the muscles that are wasting during arthritis are in danger.

Anther author of arthritis diets, Jarvis, stresses that honey and vinegar are extremely beneficial because of its low potassium, making it counter productive. The vinegar may be beneficial because if well fed people are having a hard time to metabolize all of the acetate ions or if the acetate is being excreted by the kidneys before it had a chance to begin its entrance to the cells. Also, he suggests that Kombucha a vinegar ferment, can be very helpful for arthritis.

Communication may sound like a very basic thing to do, but not a lot of people do it properly when they have arthritis. Arthritis causes profound effects on the daily life and activities and habits that were once easy and taken for granted have now become a lot more difficult. Therefore, arthritis does not affect only the person suffering with the symptoms but also the family, friends, and co-workers. The person dealing with arthritis should communicate and share their feelings with their loved ones. Also, they should express any need for assistance as well as conveying their need for patience, understanding, and support.

Mediation, like relaxation techniques is very useful in releasing the tension and stress from arthritis. Learn new ways to relax and meditate helps ease muscle tension and helps fight that fatigue that arthritis causes. Often times, patients with arthritis minds become cluttered with facing challenges. Thus, clearing the mind is very therapeutic. Although, these thought may be necessary thoughts, it is also beneficial to sometimes focus on there things in order to clear the mind. This time helps both the body and the mind to relief.

Eliminating stress can be an inescapable reality of life. However, everyone has stress whether if it is positive or negative stress. The way a person response to stress physically and emotionally stops the strain on both the body and the mind. Therefore, it is best to respond to a certain type of stress in a way that will eliminate that stress.

Concentration helps arthritis patients to have a good quality of life despite arthritis. A person can choose to just think negative thoughts but this person can also focus on positive things like the things they can still do and still have. It’s an excellent idea to concentrate on positive thinking, having an active lifestyle, and making realistic goals.

Glamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is great supplement to treat arthritis. The fatty acids in the GLA is an evening primrose oil and in one study of 56 rheumatoid arthritis patients, those taking GLA everyday for a period of 6 months showed signs of less joint pain and stiffness as well as a better grip and strength. Always check the labels of oils to see the amount of GLA in them; usually the dose is 1,800 mg daily. In order to get it, one would need eight 1000 mg capsules of borage oil with each containing 240 mg of GLA. Like the fish oil, GLA can also thin your blood and react to other drugs, so it is very important to consult your doctor before taking this treatment.

Vitamins and minerals can also help with the pain of RA. A study conducted at the Mayo Clinic learned that older women who took vitamins like vitamin C, vitamin E, or zinc showed that they were 30% to 60% less likely to develop RA.

There are always trendy herbal remedies that are thought to be good for you but in reality aren’t. One example would be cat’s claw which is a very popular herbal remedy with anti-inflammatory activity in animals. But in reality there is no scientific evidence or study that really shows that it can help humans. Only because it helps animals doesn’t always mean that it will help us, so always consult your physician before trying this herbal remedy.

In another study that was held by the Swedish showed that RA patients who had a Mediterranean diet for three months had less pain, better joint function and more vitality than those who had the Western typical diet. A typical Mediterranean diet is rich in olive oil, cereals, legumes, fish, fruits, vegetables, and low in meats. All of these elements have great anti-inflammatory or antioxidant activities in the body, which can explain why it is a great diet.
